What is Conflict.
To define what conflict is it is a disagreement that arises when two people have two different ideas or different point of view about a certain thing or topic or issue. In other words conflict can be dominated as a disagreement between two or more people. Conflict exists or arises because of reasons that may lead to improvement or good results and of why it is can be important. There are several ways how to handle conflict and can be solved in an acceptable and professional manner which accommodate the rival parties. Conflict can have negative and positive outcome but it is important and healthy to have conflict if it is under control but can be destructive if out of hand. It’s normal for people to respond differently to conflict. Conflict is inevitable and often necessary when forming high-performing teams because they evolve through “form, storm, norm and perform” periods.
Four major patterns of Conflicts
1. Vertical
This occurs at the hierarchical levels and
the people involved are the top middle management, middle managements and
supervisors and supervisors and subordinates. The reasons for this is because of
the goals, the deadlines and the performance
results
2. Horizontal
This occurs with people in the same working
in similar hierarchical levels. The reasons for the conflicts are because
incompatible goals and perceived or real scarcity of
resources.
3. Staff line Conflict
This occurs with people with different
tasks and specifically the frontline and assembly workers and supervisors. The
reasons being are of promotion and appraisal and access to computer hardware
4. Role Conflict
Occur with employee that have incomplete or out of date job descriptions or have
out of date or nonexistent job descriptions ,reporting to more than one manger
or supervisor and receiving multiple and conflicting requests and
orders
